Marcus Venables Soloists

Marcus Venables is principal cornet of the Canadian Staff Band and serves as Band Sergeant, Deputy Songster Leader and YP Bandmaster at North York Temple. He graduated in 2017 from the University of Toronto with a degree in trumpet performance. As well as working with several local Toronto groups as a performer and soloist, Marcus has traveled to the United States, England and Europe as both a soloist and conductor.
In addition to playing, composition is a main focus for Marcus. He has received various awards, publications and commissions for his compositions for band, wind band, choral groups and strings. His music has been recorded by numerous groups and has received premieres around the world.  His true passion, however, is serving the Lord in whatever way possible. Marcus considers himself beyond blessed to be able to use music ministry as a way of worshipping, serving and growing the kingdom.

Barrington Venables has served as a member of the North York Temple Band since 2000. Joining the band initially as a member of the cornet section, he moved to the trombone section in 2004 to become principal trombone. Barrington is a Canadian Staff Band alumnus, having joined the band with his brother Brindley in 2006 before leaving to pursue his education in the United States. Barrington transferred from Messiah College to the University of Toronto in 2010, where he completed his Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance degree in 2012. As well as being an active freelance trombonist in the Greater Toronto Area, he is currently a member of I Tromboni, an innovative chamber ensemble known as the Team Canada of Trombones.

Mike Hetherington began his musical career at a young age while his parents were Salvation Army officers at Winnipeg Citadel in Western Canada. Upon their transfer to the Toronto area, Mike pursued his musical studies with local Salvationist Bill Way and over the years has had the opportunity to perform with several local ensembles including the Hannaford Street Silver Band, the Canadian Staff Band, Intrada Brass, and the Toronto Wind Orchestra. Mike completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Western Ontario where he was a guest performer with the UWO Wind Ensemble. Outside of school, Mike soldiered at London Citadel and was also a member of London Citadel Band. He has been a member of the NYTB euphonium section since 2001.
