The Soloists

Principal Cornet Robert Venables

Robert Venables, the band’s principal cornet is a professional freelance trumpeter, performing with a wide range of ensembles including the True North Brass, Hannaford Street Silver Band, Intrada Brass, Hamilton Philharmonic, Toronto Philharmonia, and The Canadian Opera Company.

As a soloist he has travelled throughout North America, Europe, and England performing with such bands as The International Staff Band, Canadian Staff Band, Southern Territory Band, Earlscourt Citadel, and most many corps bands in Canada.

His solo recording (Exaltation) with the Brighouse & Rastrick Band is perhaps a highlight of his musical career, but without question his true joy is the fact that five of his children are serving in the North York Temple Band, and that they all love the Lord.

Robert is also the Y.P. Band Leader and Songster Leader at North York Temple.

Principal Euphonium Mark Hall

A fifth generation Salvationist and born to officer parents, Majors Keith and Dorothy Hall, Captain Mark Hall serves as the Divisional Youth Secretary for the army’s Ontario Central-East Division headquartered in Toronto.

Prior to becoming an officer, Mark worked as a Divisional Music Director in the USA Western Territory. A former member of the Canadian Staff Band, Mark has travelled the world both as soloist and clinician.

Principal Trombone Barrington Venables

Barrington has served as a member of the North York Temple Band since January 2000 joining the band initially as a member of the cornet section.

Moving to the trombone section in 2004, his skills as a player have resulted in an enviable reputation for excellence and consistency both as a soloist and as the band’s principal trombone. Barrington is also a Canadian Staff Band alumnus, as the band’s former principal trombone.
He is at present studying for his Performance Degree at the University of Toronto.

Solo Cornet Brindley Venables

From a young age, Brindley received expert tuition from his father, Robert Venables and has developed into a fine soloist who is quickly making his mark in the army world.

Brindley has been a guest at many army events around North America and continues to serve the Lord as a bandsman and virtuosic soloist.
